President’s Report January 2012
Well folks welcome to 2012. Happy New Year one and all! I hope you all had a good break and are back at work all bushy tailed and fired up. I also hope you are looking forward to another years motor sport.
At our Movember club night we saw Dave Stewart lose all his facial hair to the razor in the name of men’s health and in doing so raised around $360 which was a great effort. Thanks Dave for being a willing lamb to the slaughter, Wayne Sanders for being the impromptu barber and Ann Robson for lending us the utensils. Thanks to all who donated and got involved in something other than cars for a change.
By way of recent Club events we haven’t had too many of late. A small but efficient crew attended the working bee prior to the Geordie Fawcett Memorial Autocross (GFMAX) to knock our motorsport complex into shape which looked great and still looks good. Thanks to Greg and Sharon Pitt, Andrew Bayley, Clare Bennett and Barney Haddon.
The GFMAX as our Christmas Break-up went off with a bang. The entry list for the Autocross was huge with some 55 entries. Santa arrived at lunch time to entertain the little ones in a Red Ferrari (thanks Stapo) driven by none other than “The Stig” whose identity created considerable discussion and is to stay a secret please.
The rides after the Autocross were a real hit too as people just kept lining up and paying their money to have more. A big thanks to all involved both organising and taking part as I think we all had a lot of fun.
We had a really good meeting with the council and other motorsport clubs and associated supporting businesses to discuss the merits of re-visiting the Motorport Complex idea that was conceptualised back in 2002. It was great to see all the different facets of motorport in our immediate area all in our club rooms and all on the same page in this regard. We are all in the same boat with pressure on our various venues be it industrial or residential or whatever. Hopefully we can all work together and get something started this time around.
Coming up we have quite a bit of motorsport. Sunday 12th Feb is our first local event that being a Motorkhana preceded by a Come and Try session to invite or challenge your mates, colleagues or children to give it a go.
Our club night on the 24th of February will once again be our annual trophy night with guest speaker Michael Holloway who was the Steward at Mt Leura last year, has recently retired from a job high up in the Police Force and has been involved in motorsport for some time. Remember this will be a $5 entry for a supper that is a bit more upmarket than our usual. 7:30pm start please folks.
The long weekend in March on the Saturday 10th will see us BLCC running the Begonia as a VRC round as well as a VCRS round. If you can help with being a road closure or a stage commander or any other of the myriad of jobs please contact Peter Stapleton.
2 weeks after that on the 24th and 25th March we will all be down at Mt Leura running Rd 3 and Rd 4 of the Victorian Hillclimb Championship (VHC). We are intending to race on both days and call them 2 separate events which gets better use of the one setup. Saturday will be run over the Short Course whilst Sunday will be the normal long course. This will constitute 2 rounds of both the VHC and our CDC. Please contact Barney or me if you can help at any stage over the weekend.
I will be an apology at our January meeting so will leave you in Noel’s capable hands as I need to be in Nhill for my parent’s 50th Wedding anniversary. Hope to see you at the club in the near future.
